“I thought of becoming an entrepreneur, once I came back from US. I spent two years there working for Fermilab. The moment I came back, I did not want to take up another job so then I thought of doing something on my own, something creative, something interesting.”
This is how Mr. Dinesh Koul, Managing Director at Control Electronic Company Pvt. Ltd. gave shape to his dreams. He chanced upon electrical control panels and decided to start with small panels.
As luck would have it, the first order came without investing too much effort. “We were moving up in a lift in Nehru Place and we were talking about panels, the fellow turned around and said I need a panel, do you guys make one?, that is how we got our first order from an unknown person,” shares Mr. Koul.
Known for being the most reliable manufacturer of electrical control panels, Control Electronic Company Pvt. Ltd. is an ISO:9000 certified company. “We supply C-based panels, UL approved panels and have quality control programs that runs through out the company,” says Mr. Koul.
Comparing the way businesses were conducted earlier and today, Mr. Koul finds a marked difference. He says, “Today all our enquiries come on emails, from IndiaMART, from website, from Google. The most important part in any company’s life is the business we get and that business is through enquiries. So my biggest concern is how many enquiries and what quality of enquiries have I got. So the first thing when I do get up in the morning is I look at whatever enquiries I have got from IndiaMART and I am getting something like 20 enquiries a day, and for 20 enquiries a day it
means I have to dispatch between 4 to 5 sales people and I have to make sure that the right people are attending those enquiries and that is how typically my day begins.
“I did not find IndiaMART, IndiaMART found me,” says Mr. Koul who was approached and convinced to try the free services of IndiaMART. “The response I got from free listing prompted me to add value to it and increase my portfolio in IndiaMART. And since then I have every year increased the kind of investment I do showcasing my products in IndiaMART and we are at a stage where my people are directly interacting with IndiaMART people and we are getting may be 20-30 enquiries a day.” Not only this, Mr. Koul is taking full advantage of the present technology to propel his business. “On the enquiry front, we have IndiaMART showcase, for the enquiry processes, sales quotation making we have CRM, for the execution we have ERP and that means there is no inaccuracy. Our clients gets what he wans in time, every time. That is what is important to our client.”
With an optimistic outlook for the future, Mr. Koul hopes for a growth to the tune of 30-40% in the next 3-4 years. He says, “And we have tied up with IndiaMART that they have to help us in capturing the market in a big way especially the quality clients. We are not talking about the volume only we are also talking about the quality clients and IndiaMART is going to be big part of that whole process, specially in getting the enquiries and then processing we can take over from there. So our presence to the clients, our visibility to the client has to be increased and that is what we are looking from IndiaMART to do for us.”
