Although Kodambakkam is a city that is culturally rich, it has become more popular for housing the Tamil film industry. It is a place which has been assigned celebrity like status and overshadows almost every other achievement of the city. In 2002, a new star emerged to create a new identity for this place. – Mr. Ramanatan.

Shift From Retail to Wholesale
As soon as Mr. K. Ramanatan, Managing Director, Abhi Vairavan’s Plumbing Co. was struck with a business idea, he was sure of it’s success. The belief led him to turn his idea into reality. “We are in the trading business which is buying and selling. We were previously into retail and are now into wholesale. We also have a showroom and godown facilities for storage,” says Mr. Ramanatan.

The journey started when Mr. Ramanatan ventured into retail business. Since then he has been able to move away from retail and is now completely into wholesale business. He shares, “When I started my business, I was thinking about a lot of options which had the potential of vertical growth for me and my company. I, finally, decided to go in this direction which provided me with the opportunity to grow to a bigger stage.”

Future Initiative
The growth Abhi Vairavan has witnessed in the past few years has been immense. “For some products we are distributors, for others we are even CNF. We are also slowly planning to enter into production. Previously, we were into all kinds of hardware items for building material. Now, we exclusively cater to the plumbing industry,” says Mr. Ramanatan.

Ever since Mr. Ramanatan moved his business online and associated with IndiaMART.com, he has been able to derive benefits that were difficult to get previously. The owner of a fast growing company considers the future of the Internet very bright. “Today, everyone is getting websites created. Previously, the business was conducted through phone call. Even before that, hard copies were made available to spread the word. Nowadays, people access websites on phones as well. Looking at this, I can only say that B2B marketplaces such as IndiaMART.com will play a very big role over the period of time,” Mr. Ramanatan.
