Life took a complete turn for Mr. Sundar Ranganathan when his fate collided with inspiration. Presently serving as the Managing Director of Woodward Grand, Mr. Ranganathan chose to follow a different path when he experienced problem in parking his vehicle at a mall. It was then that he was struck with an idea.

“It was an accidental identification. We visited a mall and tried to find a parking slot and then we came back and we thought why there is no technology for this. We felt that internationally there are many products but in India it was lacking. The main reason, we found, was that these products were not appropriate for Indian conditions. So we started thinking why not make technology suited for Indian conditions,” shares Mr. Ranganathan.

Secret of Success
“All our technologies are totally indigenous and made in Chennai. We have production delivery and all the facilities here in Chennai itself. This technology solves most of our day to day parking problems and is designed to address the local needs of this market,” says Mr. Ranganathan.

Challenging Obstacles
The first few steps are always the most difficult and Mr. Ranganathan had a first hand experience of it when he established the company. He says, “In 2009 when we started it, we were slightly ahead of the demand curve. It took a little longer time to make people understand that we need technology to solve the problem. This was the number one challenge for us. When we said parking technology it was considered a little low end. Also, the type of talent who were willing to work here was difficult to find.”

As a small player, Mr. Ranganathan, found his footing in the market but only at the local level.
