Joyful Learning: How Technology is Helping Kids Enjoy Math in UP

(IndiaMART Partners with Khan Academy to Deliver Quality Education)

The ASER 2024 report reveals a stark reality: more than 50% of children in Grade 8 struggle to solve even a simple three-digit by one-digit division problem. For many, mathematics remains a subject of fear, often due to teaching approaches that do not adequately engage students.
But for Goni, a Class 9 student, playing with numbers on a tablet is fun. After the COVID pandemic, she had dropped out for nearly 3–4 years. When she returned, even basic counting and multiplication were a struggle. That changed when Khan Academy India (KAI) introduced its technology-based learning model, breaking down math concepts into small, visual videos and practice exercises in local languages.

Committed to providing quality education to every child, IndiaMART partnered with Khan Academy to bring this learning journey to 95 social welfare schools across Uttar Pradesh, primarily serving children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Using these short, easy-to-understand videos and interactive practice, Goni rebuilt her foundation step by step. Today, she confidently tackles Class 9-level math problems.

At her school, ATS Sekhui Kalan in Balrampur, Goni is not alone, many girls like her are now opting for Mathematics in Class 9. They are no longer afraid of math; they are beginning to enjoy it. Their happy parents have also expressed heartfelt appreciation: “Earlier, parents would say ‘Math is too tough for our girls.’ Now, they proudly tell us their daughters are solving problems just like that on a tablet!” — Dr. Asha Mishra, Principal, ATS Sekhui Kalan.

Through videos, step-by-step hints, and instant feedback, students can self-correct, build confidence, and gradually gain fluency, not only in foundational concepts but also for board exams. KAI has also localized content in Hindi, Hinglish, Assamese, Punjabi, and Marathi, providing a world-class learning experience comparable to any paid product.
Through this partnership, IndiaMART is not just helping children learn math, it’s also helping them to overcome fear, build confidence, and rewrite their learning journeys.
