Yet for many young girls, inadequate school infrastructure often stands as a silent barrier between them and their dreams.
When the IndiaMART team first visited GGIC, Achauliya, the reality was deeply concerning. Water seeped through roofs, dampening walls and floors and forcing students to sit outside or stay home. Damaged electrical fittings inside the classrooms made the space risky for children. The washrooms were unusable with interrupted water supply which make it really difficult for girls to attend school on certain days and with no furniture, girls had no choice but to sit on the floor.
It was no surprise that attendance dropped sharply and dropouts increased. An environment that isn’t safe or healthy can never inspire learning.
BEFORE:
The initiative included renovating classrooms, repairing roofs, and ensuring proper waterproofing to protect against leaks. New electrical fittings were installed, windows repaired, and desks and benches provided so students could sit and study comfortably. The washrooms were rebuilt and made fully functional. Clean drinking water supply was also ensured inside the campus.
The Results: A Renewed Spirit
The change was deeply satisfying. Within months, enrollment rose from 286 to 406, an increase of almost 40% and the average monthly attendance reached nearly 80%. Parents who once hesitated to send their daughters to school now feel confident that their daughters are learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Beyond the numbers, the transformation has sparked a renewed sense of hope among girls to pursue higher education. The girls of GGIC, Achauliya are not just returning to school, they are dreaming bigger than ever before and paving the way for other girls to follow.
